It all starts with Giving. What gift have you offered today to your friends, coworkers, neighbors, strangers on the street, or the world at large? It can be a simple used item, a gift of self, a treasure, something that you loved or something that you couldn't wait to be rid of - All giving is good giving in a Buy Nothing, Get Everything Gift Economy. And the more we talk about what we're giving, the more we inspire each other and the world.

The favorite thing I’ve given away recently is a baby carrier! It was purchased during a very difficult time in my life. Stress and sadness buying resulted in me having two carriers that were very similar. Letting go of this carrier is relieving mentally as well as physically. It’s a weight off my shoulders. A new mama will get to use this carrier with her baby and make so many amazing memories.
I have a question about gifts of self. During this pandemic: how is anyone else offering gifts of self?
Here's some recipes, will be in our ALA Unit 106 cookbooks. I'm putting them in the cookbook for my grandaughter when she gets married this June 2020.
Today I offered and sent my free e-book to Purple Heart Homes USA to distribute to any and all that work or serve with them.
I have a bag of clothing, and a bag of kitchen stuff that will be given away, when we are pass this stay-at-home directive in my state.
I love things like sour dough starter that just grow and grow like magic pudding, kombucha is the same.
Im experimenting making enzymes with kitchen scraps and things I forage for in the surrounding streets and woods. It’s such a lively practise.
This is so beautiful, Alexa! My mouth is watering. Have you converted a lot of people to sourdough bakers, and do you have some great shared recipes with these new converts? If you have tons of excess starter, what do you do with it? Compost it? Give to a nearby chicken-owner? And, um, do you have a recipe for the crepes above? Would love to get it.
One of my favorite gifts to give is anything to do with my sourdough - I gift the starter, the bread, lessons on how to make sourdough, etc. Those who have a sourdough starter know how wasteful it can be when it grows, and there is a need to discard. When my sourdough starter gets to be too big - we get the neighbors together to make crepes! Or pancakes, pizza crust, etc. It is always so much fun to have a crepe party, and it is a delicious use of what otherwise would be thrown away! We always decide based on what ingredients we have on hand what we can make. Pictured below is Peach, Apricot Bourbon Crepes with homemade whipped cream that the neighbors created together at the peak of peach season! I have wonderful memories from sharing sourdough starter with neighbors.
Ok, I'll go first. Today my son finally cleaned out his closet and these shoes appeared in the kitchen, ready for me to photograph and list in our local gift economy. They went fast, to one of my favorite friends whom I met when we first started an in-person gift economy we set up in our town where we gather at a local park once a week to share produce and food we make and preserve. She's one of my favorite people I've met through this sharing movement and she has two sons who are a little younger than mine, so we know we can always pass along outgrown clothing and shoes to them.
